Can't remember the last time you laughed out loud so hard that you couldn’t breathe?

Lacking “get up and go”?

Feeling drained, alone, frustrated?

Struggling with focus?

Scared to make new social interactions?

Just like some computers need the occasional reboot, so do humans.

On weekend retreat you will experience:

A chance to "get away from it all".

Having new experiences.

Chatting openly with likeminded people who are in the same boat.

Time to let your mind get free of the daily grind of modern life.

Your stresses falling away.

A good belly laugh and deep relaxing sleep.

A chance to reconnect with yourself.

Adventure:

Adventure and risk is a part of us. We are built to manage and work with hazardous situations. Our brains are wired for it.

Yet modern living doesn't include it in significant amounts. We have it too easy. That's not to say there aren't times when our natural responses to danger aren't triggered. They are. All the time. But only really in very small ways. These mini triggers lead to a build up of chronic stress which leads to many physical and mental illnesses.

Having adventures allows you to release much of this stress and really connect with how your brain works.

To that end, our courses include adventures both big and small. While each be different, and some will be weather dependent, the adventurous activities we include could be any of the following (or something completely different):

  • Rock climbing
  • Hill Walking
  • Weaselling
  • Abseiling
  • Caving
  • Gorge Walking
  • Canoeing

Shinrin-Yoku

(Japanese Forest Bathing):

Forest bathing is a practise from Japan called shinrin-yoku. It was developed in response to scientific study and is simply the act of spending time in nature and gaining the positive mental and physical benefits from doing so.

Of course the act itself isn't anything really new. Humans and animals have been gaining the benefits of spending time in nature for as long as there have been humans and animals in nature.

Our courses give our group members lots of opportunity to simply talk, listen and reflect.

Fun and Laughter:

This is where the real fun of living will be brought back to you.

As kids we all had our hopes and dreams of the future and these revolved around the ability to have fun and enjoy life.

Being able to laugh out loud is one of the quickest mood boosts you can tap into. Being able to put the adult in you on one side and go back to the freedom of acting like a child again releases happy hormones which reward you and are a vital part of your continued mental wellbeing.

This is the real Fountain of Youth.

Woodland Skills:

Drawing on ancient traditions of working with nature and combining them with more modern techniques the courses contain a variety of activities which fall under the broad headings of survival, camp craft, foraging and arts and crafts.

As with the adventurous activities the specific skills we include on each course will vary according to the group members, the weather and seasonal factors. No two courses will ever be exactly alike.

Some of the included activities might be:

  • Foraging
  • Camp cooking
  • Fire making
  • Shelter building
  • Storymaking
  • Natural crafts

What Does the Course Look Like?

While each course will be a little different in the details this is a typical structure to each one.

  • Arrive and get settled in the woods
  • Introductions and Why Are We Here?
  • Woodland Skills Tasks
  • Camp Cooking
  • Storytelling, Laughter and Destress
  • Sleep (tents or own shelters)

Where It All Happens:

We make use of a number of locations dotted in and around the Peak District. The area has many great woodlands, camping spots, crags and waterways to choose from.

In addition to the lovely surroundings, the locations we move between give a powerful sense of calm which is invaluable to our purpose.
